Hello ifeminists:

A gracious good Tuesday to all. August seems to be the slowest month in
all things, perhaps because so many people are on vacation. Traditionally,
it is also the worst month for donations and funding. So ... if you are able
to ... send a few dollars our way!
<> for credit cards; call (312)
494-9440; email <info@free-market.net>; send a check or money order to The
Henry Hazlitt Foundation, 401 N. Franklin St., Suite 3E, Chicago, IL 60610,
marked "for ifeminists". Contributions are tax-deductible. Thanks!

The new editorial for this week, "The Silence Surrounding RAWA" by me
<http://www.ifeminists.com/introduction/editorials/2002/0820.html> has been
posted. If it looks a little lonely up there ... well, August is a slow
month. Remember that I encourage readers to send in their material.
<mac@ifeminists.com>

Take a minute and check out discussion on the ifeminists.com BB
<http://www.ifeminists.com/interaction/forum/feminism0208c/index.html> where
members are discussing the "latest commercials attacking male body odor" and
"teen mothers and entitlement." Lurk or join the discussion ... both are
encouraged.

People have asked about the chat room: to wit, "what's happened to the
weekly Sunday e-gatherings?" The e-gatherings will resume in September.
Watch for the notices.

Now ... onto the main event...

                             -- Wendy McElroy, mac@ifeminists.com

Commentary on Ann Coulter
----------
Women's eNews
by Carla Rivers
   A right-wing, liberal-hating, miniskirted, mean pundit owes
some of her success to the very movement she bashes:
feminism. And while Carla Rivers hates what Ann Coulter
stands for, she is delighted there is a place for
Coulter to take her stands. (08/14/02)

Academia's PC swindle

FIRE/San Francisco Chronicle
by Debra J. Saunders
"[S]tudents demanded and won free-speech rights at public
universities; now many of them are tenured professors,
and they're imposing speech codes on helpless students.
When universities clamp down on political incorrectness
... the contest is between 'totally unarmed students
facing administrators who feed them totally spurious
legal and self-contradictory theories about rights.'" (08/13/02)
http://www.free-market.net/rd/714175360.html

Feminists who fake it
----------
FrontPageMagazine
by Marni Soupcoff
"The college feminists at Stanford and elsewhere weren't
relying on their own imaginations to come up with
far-fetched womyn's issues and illogical excuses to
blast conservatives (a.k.a. the man). There is, as I
recently discovered, a feminist web site that does all
that hard work for them." (08/15/02)
