Hello ifeminists:
There's a favor I'd like to ask of each reader. Could you send this
issue of the InsiderUpdate out to an acquaintance, your "friends" list, an
editor, or a discussion group who/which might be interested? I would
appreciate it.
And hello! I am freshly returned from an enjoyable LP Con in Ohio
where I lectured on ifeminism and political optimism. The crowd was cordial
and interested in ideas, the mood upbeat, the accommodations unique. Brad
and I wandered around the "Quaker Oats" hotel, which was made out of
converted silos with every circular room being a slice of a silo. Thanks to
Matt Terry for making Ohio so receptive to ifeminism. And "Hey
Elizabeth!" -- it was good to finally meet you in person.
The weekly editorial section of ifeminists is updated with an article
by me entitled "Gender Feminism's Global Blackmail"
<http://www.ifeminists.com/introduction/editorials/2002/0416.html>, Glen
Sacks' "Boys: the New Underclass in American Schools"
<http://www.ifeminists.com/introduction/editorials/2002/0416a.html>, and
Dianna Thompson's "DNA Evidence: Enough to Exonerate Dads?"
<http://www.ifeminists.com/introduction/editorials/2002/0416b.html>. Enjoy!
Tracy Quan -- a sister-traveller and gad-about -- has been profiled in
the May 2002 issue of Penthouse (page 125). The article mentions that Tracy
and chief justice William Rehnquist met "while autographing their respective
works at a Washington, D.C., book fair. Tracy didn't tell him about her
former life, however." As she commented in email to me, "I don't see myself
as Tracy Quan, the hooker. I see myself as Tracy Quan, a citizen of this
land over which he dispenses justice."
As always, the Bulletin Board is buzzing and open for all to drop
by -- either to post or to browse. A sample: LibertyBelle is taking Dear
Abby to task over big weddings

number of six-foot women who post)
3.html>, Tim Peck and Brad disagree about the meaning of the recent Heritage
Study that shows a link between marriage and low incidence of abuse

If you like your contact more personal, then mark down this Sunday at
9:00 EST. That's when you can join Sunni and other "chatters" in the
jointly-sponsored ifeminists/mensactivism chat room.
<http://www.ifeminists.com/interaction/chat> I'll be dropping by myself,
just to say "hi!"
Now ... onto the main event.

http://www.free-market.net/rd/790299153.html
The remastered race
----------
Wired
by Brian Alexander
Artificial chromosomes and in vitro screening are giving

whether we want to engineer embryos but how far it
should go.
http://www.free-market.net/rd/822920787.html
Feminists abroad -- ugly Americans?
----------
USA Today
by Constance Hilliard
In watching how American femnists are imposing their
agendas on a global level, Hilliard wonders, "we
American women are becoming little more than

non-Western societies, are we genuinely making the lives

just 1 conviction for every 13 cases brought to trial in
1999. Why has the conviction rate fallen so sharply?"
Carnell explains. (04/10/02)

Why abortion matters
----------
Boston Globe
by Editorial staff
"The decisions whether and when to have children, whether
to marry, have a career, pursue higher education, even
whether to run for elective office -- these are the real
freedoms that reproductive rights confer on American
women. In 2002, the phrase 'abortion rights' is not so
much about abortion as it is about rights." (04/07/02)
