Hello ifeminists:

I am back, re-chained to my computer, after a long-weekend in
Washington, D.C. at a faculty seminar hosted by the Institute for Humane
Studies. I would encourage any university students who are reading to
contact IHS <http://www.theihs.org> and learn how to apply for admission
into their summer seminars. I'd love to see you there!

Fellow-traveller Carl Watner (Inmanfeedmill@aol.com) is looking for a
law student or lawyer to volunteer a few hours searching for articles on the
constitutionality of state or federally-mandated ID cards for an upcoming
anthology titled TRADEMARK OF TOTALITARIANISM: Opposing Government
Enumeration.

New editorials are up and running on the ifeminist front page: "21st
Century Feminism"
<http://www.ifeminists.com/introduction/editorials/2002/0312.html> by me;
"Peeping Justice"
<http://www.ifeminists.com/introduction/editorials/2002/0312a.html> by James
R. Hanback Jr.; and, "In Defense of Russell Yates"
<http://www.ifeminists.com/introduction/editorials/2002/0312b.html> by Glenn
J. Sacks. Enjoy!

In the chat room <http://www.ifeminists.com/interaction/chat> this
Sunday at 9:00 p.m. EST, I want to discuss the recent unpleasantness that
greeted an invitation to drop by ifeminists.com that I extended to members
of soc.men. Their hostility was incredible. The men did not think it
possible that my good will was sincere. Tell me what you think is the best
way to overcome the deep-seated hatred that men are developing toward women,
especially ones who refuse to surrender the word "feminist." By the way, my
editorial this week was prompted by the incident.

For those of you more at home on a Bulletin Board, an interesting
discussion is occurring on the our BB re: rape, and how it differs from
other crimes of violence.

Feds seize Ayn Rand papers
----------
Los Angeles Times
Eleven years ago, Leonard Peikoff, Ayn Rand's executor,
donated many of her papers to the Library of Congress.
For sentimental reasons, he kept the first and last
pages of "The Fountainhead" and sent photocopies to
Washington. In January, government agents seized those
   mementos. (03/05/02)

NOW vs. Mike Tyson
----------
Alternet
NOW wants to take on boxing champ Mike Tyson, who is also a
convicted rapist who has served his time, after the D.C.
Boxing and Wrestling Commission granted him a hearing
that could result in his obtaining a boxing license.
This, NOW says, would be an insult to all women.

Virginia Senate bans partial-birth abortion
----------
Washington Post
"Advocates for the proposal said it would make Virginia the

   mother." (03/07/02)

For nearly two decades, hundreds of companies like Ford,

diversity -- respect for individual merit. (01/07/03)

http://www.free-market.net/rd/223600124.html

Politically correct foreign policy?
----------
AntiWar.Com
by Justin Raimondo
Raimondo takes aim at PC foreign policy. For example, the
Afghan war was hailed by conservatives for supposedly
"liberating" Afghan women. There was also the gay angle,
with gay warhawks like Andrew Sullivan citing the
Taliban's harsh proscription against male homosexuality
as a reason to support the war. (03/06/02)

Georgia counties between 1995 and 1997, it was found
that 82.2% of contested custody cases resulted in

support had an impermissibly discriminatory affect upon

Sex, lies and women's magazines
----------
Alternet
by Liza Featherstone

   articles about sex?" (03/04/02)
http://www.free-market.net/rd/636390068.html

P2P may revolutionize obscenity law
----------
XXXlaw.net
by J. D. Obenberger
"The new second and third generations of peer to peer
computer file transfer protocols (P2P)may make the
prosecution of obscenity obsolete." With no central
server, no fixed IP addresses and no obvious individuals
to prosecute, the concept of community standards might
become utterly meaningless and unenforcable. (02/28/02)
 http://www.free-market.net/rd/651782262.html

The church's sexual betrayal

http://www.free-market.net/rd/38264447.html

Mothers and madness
----------
Boston Globe
by Ellen Goodman
Goodman contrasts the treatment of a North Texas father who
killed his three children with that of Andrea Yates. The
man was deemed sane. Goodman concludes that "we all
assume too easily that mothers must be insane, not
willfully violent." Some have expressed surprise over
Goodman's article as she is widely viewed as being
   "anti-men." (02/28/02)

----------
Strike the Root
by Stuart A Miller
"Fast, angry, biting, stinging insects seems to more
accurately describe the issue of marital rape than does
a 'can of worms,' although there is no doubt that the
entire concept of marital rape does present difficult
   and perplexing implications." (03/03/02)
