Hello ifeminists:
Many thanks to ifeminist Kevin O'Reilly for sending me his touching
poem-tribute to those who died in the World Trade Center, and for posting it
to the Bulletin Board at a currently archived page.
.html> The refreshed BB page
<http://www.ifeminists.com/interaction/forum/feminism0110b/index.html> is
bursting, once again, with discussion -- not diatribes -- about the war.
The editorial this week on our front page, <http://www.ifeminists.com/>
addresses the anti-speech Prof. Sunera Thobani delivered at a recent women's
conference in Ottawa, Ontario and the backlash it has occasioned.
Thanks as well to Donna L. for passing on the following action-idea to
bolster up the morale of firefighters and others in NYS who face the
depressing day-after-day task of searching through the rubble of the WTC.
Donna writes, "Let's start a Card Writing Campaign." Buy or make a greeting
card that reflects your feelings about their heroism, address it to "a Brave
FireFighter" and send it to the central NYC Fire Department, 1 Chase
Manhattan Plaza, New York, NY 10005. She urges us, "Just think how powerful
this message can be" to discouraged "rescuers" if bags of gratitude arrive
from the around the world at every NY fire station.
Ifeminists.com may be launching into an interesting and informal
alliance with one of the most prominent Men's Movement sites,
mensactivism.org. Its founder Scott Garman and I are discussing ways in
which our corner of feminism can co-operate with the men's movement in order
to heal the gender breach that has been largely caused by mainstream/radical
feminism. Let me know what you think of the idea.
Now....onto the main event....

Porn is like the terrorist bombings?
----------
Salt Lake Tribune
The anti-porn group Women For Decency are blatantly
attaching their political agenda to the bombings of
9-11. Its director compares porn to the destruction of
the WTC, saying that porn is not a "one-time shot like
an airplane" but it can be "just as destructive." Utah's
porn czar, Paul Houston, seems to be listening.

thinking and not
on outdated ideologies. (10/15/01)
