Hello ifeminists:

These are the dog-days of summer. I know because two hot dogs are
sprawled under a table in my work room, panting, as I write. I hope everyone
puts politics aside long enough to take a cool plunge into a blue expanse of
water. The pond at the front of my farm is looking better and better ...
tho' last year we did have a resident snapping turtle. Hmm.

Congratulations! to akutz02 who is the winner of our June book
prize -- he/she gets to pick 15 free books off our shelf. I hope you enjoy
them.

The editorials for this week have been posted: my FOXnews/ifeminists
column "NOW Court Report Lacks Facts"
<http://www.ifeminists.com/introduction/editorials/2002/0702.html>; Glenn
Sacks' "When in Trouble, Blame a Man: Colorado Arsonist Terry Barton's Smart
Strategy
<http://www.ifeminists.com/introduction/editorials/2002/0702a.html>; and "A
Father's Concern," by Guy C. Monahan
<http://www.ifeminists.com/introduction/editorials/2002/0702b.html>.

Meet Mary Lou Seymour, our ifeminist for July
<http://www.ifeminists.com>. Many of you know her already from her valuable
"liberty activist" mailings, to which I subscribe. Mary Lou is a person who
cares 24/7 for the rights and freedom of our society ... and she's a nice
person to boot.

There is no official chat room session this weekend because I expect
most people to be BBQing in their backyards or some such. The weekly Sunday
chats will resume after the July 4th weekend.

Now ... onto the main event...

                             -- Wendy McElroy, mac@ifeminists.com

Steinem's Taliban hypocrisy
----------
Equity Feminism
by Brian Carnell
"Gloria Steinem this week provided an excellent example of
the idiocy of much of contemporary feminism when she
revealed that it is not so much whether or not women are
spared from violence and oppression, but rather the key
point is who gets to save women from violence and
   oppression." (06/18/02)

Controlling pregnant women
----------
The Guardian
by Luisa Dillner
Most people know that cigarettes and alcohol are not good
for fetuses. But does this give us the right to be
hostile to those pregnant women who succumb to the odd cigarette
or glass of red wine? More and more society is saying
"yes." Can law be far behind? (06/26/02)

Women granted sovereignty over themselves
----------
LibertariaNZ
by Helen Hughes
