Hello ifeminists:

I just delivered a second assignment to Penthouse magazine and
the editor seems very pleased with it. I want to thank every
ifeminist who responded to my request for an e-interview re: her
perspective on porn because the "real voices" were what made the
article fresh and snappy. I'll keep folks posted as to when the piece
will run.

Protecting political speech
----------
Accuracy in Media
by Paul M. Weyrich
"Political Correctness reared its ugly head again this week
with the media firestorm over remarks that Senate
Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MS) made at the 100th
birthday party for Strom Thurmond (R-SC). ... Whatever
else one thinks of Thurmond, his record in Washington
belies the stereotype of a crude Southern racist in the
mold of a Senator Bilbo, particularly in the later years." (12/12/02)

As Miss World turns ...
----------
The Nation
by Katha Pollitt
"Say what you will about beauty pageants, if it's bikinis
versus burkas, you've got to be for bathing suits.
British feminists who condemned the pageant as a sexist
cattle call seemed to be missing the point, somehow." (12/05/02)
http://www.free-market.net/rd/933329892.html

A fat tax -- charge 'em by the pound
----------
Atlantic Online
by Jonathan Rauch
In this satirical piece of the "fat" issue, Rauch writes,
"It seems to me that the only honest and effective way
to confront this issue is to tax not fattening foods or
fattening companies but fat people. It is they, after
all, who drive up the government's health-care costs, so
it is they who should pay. What I propose, then, is to
tax people by the pound." (12/02)
http://www.free-market.net/rd/287599311.html

Feminism in extreme right movements
----------
ABC News
by Dean Schabner
"Women in extremist right-wing groups have long held
subservient roles, mostly bearing and rearing children.
But in an odd extension of the women's rights and
feminist movements that have propelled women into all
manner of roles formerly ruled by men, more and more
white supremacist women are eager to get out of the
kitchen and into the firing line." (12/12/02)
http://www.free-market.net/rd/42554656.html

Sex in Islam

societies are beset with difficulties -- and dangers --

radio program that examines the realities of sex
    education in Islam. (11/12/02)

War dames
----------
Washington Monthly
by Phillip Carter
"If America invades Iraq, thousands of female U.S. soldiers
will fight on the front lines." Carter analyzes the
motives behind this new phenomenon and looks at some of
    its realities. (12/02)

Affirmative action insults immigrant contributions
----------
ifeminists
by Wendy McElroy
Those who argue against affirmative action get the concepts
of "justice," "equality" and "freedom." That is
precisely why we say: eliminate affirmative action. (12/10/02)

Golfing with girls
----------
ifeminists
by Tresa McBee
McBee opens her commentary on the Augusta National Golf
Club flap with the words, "Aw, who am I kidding. Don't
care. Haven't yet. Never will." She brings common sense
    to this fractious issue. (12/10/02)
http://www.free-market.net/rd/547042275.html

Stolen conservative papers no priority for colleges
----------
Accuracy in Academia
by staff
"In recent years, mass-thefts of campus newspapers for
printing conservative content have occurred at Brown
    University, UC-Berkeley, Georgetown, Villanova, and
scores of other schools. Even if caught, it's doubtful
the newspaper thieves will be reprimanded." (12/13/02)
