Hello ifeminists:
A gracious good morning to all ifeminists! (At least it is a soggy,
snow-melting, dog-skidding "morning" for me right now.)
I hope everyone takes a moment tomorrow, Wednesday the 20th, to drop
by the Book Discussion forum
<http://www.ifeminists.com/interaction/forum/writing0202/index.html> where
we will be commencing a vigorous discussion of a book I greatly admire:
Daphne Patai's "Heterophobia: Sexual Harassment and the Future of Feminism."
It is one of the best works to emerge from the feminist movement in the past
two decades. Will Johnson will moderate and keep everyone (including me)
on-topic and in-line, so this should be a friendly, civil place to drop by.
P.S., lurkers are welcome, lengthy posters should be familiar with the book,
and "door" prizes will be awarded at random. You'all come!
The ifeminist editorials this week should be posted at the front door
of our site <http://www.ifeminists.com> by now: "Lady, Your Slip is
Showing -- the FOXNews/ifeminist column by me; "Shouldn't Men Have a Choice
Too?" by L.A. Times contributor Glenn Sacks; and the transcript of last
Sunday's chat room with Laissez Faire Books's Dyanne Petersen on the
"rights" of prisoners.
People may see a little less of me on the BB and in the chat rooms,
I'm afraid. (I'll turn more of the latter task over to our co-sponsor --
mensactivism.) I have just signed with Lexington Books, a division of Rowman
& Littlefield, to deliver a camera-ready manuscript for a book entitled "The
Debates of Liberty." The manuscript has been completed (Whew!) but the
editing and whatnots are always a time sink. Fortunately, the main BB
<http://www.ifeminists.com/interaction/forum/feminism0202d/index.html> has
taken on a personality and life of its own. Indeed, it keeps bursting at the
seams and needs to archived every week!
Carl Watner and Claire Wolfe are working on a book arguing against
national I.D., for which it would be incredibly valuable to them to have the
assistance of a sympathetic lawyer with access to a search engine that
specializes in the law. Is there anyone on the list who can provide such
one-time access to them so they can do an exhaustive search? Just get back
to me at mac@ifeminists.com and I'll connect everyone.
Bureaucrash -- another channel of Free-Market.net -- is starting a
lecture program with which ifeminists.com has been instrumental. If you are
curious about how to arrange speakers to come to your campus or
organization, then drop a note to Bureaucrash's fearless leader, Jason
Talley at jason@jdtalley.com. Tell 'em Mac sent you.
Now ... onto the main event ...

Mt. Holyoke student stands up for gun rights
----------
Wall Street Journal
"If a Mt. Holyoke junior has her way, students at the
prestigious college would have the right to carry
firearms. The problem? Massachusetts has some of the
nation's most restrictive gun laws. That hasn't
discouraged Christie Caywood, founder of the Mt. Holyoke
chapter of Second Amendment Sisters, a national, pro-gun
women's group." (requires subscription) (02/14/02)

out of Wafa Idris, a female suicide bomber. Debate has
stirred over whether Islam permits women to carry out
suicide missions. Most sources say "yes." (02/12/02)

Without exception, the 'modernizers' failed and the
backlash increased repression of women." (02/11/02)

What Betsy saw through the glass ceiling
----------
Jewish World Review
by Betsy Hart
Hart dissects the recent claims of U.S. Representatives
Maloney and Dingell about the glass ceiling being lower.
They base those claims on a taxpayer-funded analysis
that was a biased and highly-emotionalized

Should men still pay for dates?
----------
Glenn Sacks

It is difficult to estimate the number of such murders.
